Preparation

The process of hanging an outdoor TV can be easy or it can be challenging, but we are here to make this process as smooth as possible.  There are a lot of different factors that go into an outdoor TV, such as the material we are placing the TV on, the amount of sunlight that will be on the TV, how big you would like the TV to be, and what kind of sound that you expect.

Choosing The Right TV

Should I Hang An Indoor TV Outside?

Before we choose our outdoor TV type I’m sure most people are thinking about this question here.  We understand the allure of installing an indoor TV outside and we are here to give you the most honest advice on the subject.  At Perfect Angle, we have installed several TVs outside but this is probably our most common question.  There are several reasons not to install an indoor TV outside, and one of them is moisture.  TVs can only handle so much abuse, and TVs are getting more and more fragile every year.  The biggest reason not to put an indoor TV outside would be the cold.  Your TV will most likely not last for the winter, and even if you decide to bring the TV inside every year you will ultimately put your TV in danger of breaking when you decide to keep it in the corner of the garage for the winter.  There are several reasons why you should not take this route, and the biggest reason would be money, we hate to see you throw away hard-earned money on a TV that will likely end up broken within a few months.  We understand that outdoor TVs come at a cost, but they are often worth it in the long run.  There are a lot of companies that provide outdoor boxes for TVs that claim to protect the TV, and although this might protect the TV from direct weather, it will not protect it from the harsh winter conditions or the moisture buildup of our Long Island climate.  These outdoor TV boxes also come with a much larger labor cost as they are more difficult to install than a normal outdoor TV.  However, if this is the route you would like to take, and you are someone who likes to gamble, then we are happy to take on this task for you.

Full Shade

This is the cheapest option when it comes to outdoor TVs.  In an area where there is little to no sun you still get the benefit of a nice bright weatherproof display that can be used year round without having to pay the price of a partial shade or full sun tv.  These come in various brands and can look amazing without breaking the bank.

Partial Shade

The sun is no joke and in the summer time when that TV is glaring against your TV, you’re going to need a TV that can not only withstand the sun but can repel the water and weather that it will be exposed to.  The partial shade TV is a bit brighter than the full shade TV and is a little more weatherproofed making it a must when installing on the side of a house in a slightly sunny area.

Full Sun Televisions

This is the most expensive of our outdoor television lineup and it’s because it’s the brightest and the baddest of them all.  Often these TVs are placed by the pool area, and they can be right up close to the action.  They are completely weatherproof, glare-proof, and can withstand harsh weather conditions that make football pool parties a really fun experience.  We recommend this TV for the person who wants their outdoor TV up close and personal right near the action.

Mapping The Electricity

Mapping The Electricity

After you’ve figured out which type of TV you want to go with you’ll want to find where the electricity will be sourced. Sometimes we can source electricity from inside the house, and often there is an outlet on the other side of the wall that is easily tapped off.  When there is no power outlet close, sometimes we can run a conduit on the outside of the wall from an outlet adjacent area.  The next option is to check for attic, basement, or crawl space access.  Everything can then be neatly installed inside a weatherproof outdoor box behind the TV.

Choosing The Mount

Choosing The Mount

When it comes to mounting your tv there are a few important choices to make.  Understanding what type of options you have for mounting will help out a lot with your outdoor TV installation.  Swivel mounts allow for a wide range of motion, and can be viewed from various angles.  Tilting mounts will help in areas that will be mounted slightly higher than normal such as above a bar.  A flat mount is a good choice for certain applications but these might be difficult when installed outdoors because they don’t leave much room for the outlet box to be installed.  Since tilting mounts tilt away from the wall they are a great choice for mounting outdoor TVs, because they allow for a lot of room behind the TV for the outlet to sit.

Where Will Your Audio Come From?

Where Will Your Audio Come From?

Outdoor TVs come with a few drawbacks, and besides the price, the main drawback is the sound.  There are practically no outdoor TVs that come with built-in speakers and the ones that do are very disappointing.  So how do we remedy this dilemma?  To capture the perfect audio on your outdoor football or baseball game this year there are a few options for you to choose from.  The easiest route and most popular is to attach a soundbar to the bottom of the TV.  These are completely waterproof and can be installed in any environment, and although they do come with a price tag they do look extremely stylish, and they are the perfect accessory for any outdoor installation.  However, the best option by far is to install an outdoor landscape system in your backyard.  These systems can be accompanied by several speakers to capture your sports, movies, and shows while you’re lounging in your pool.  There’s just something about hearing the bass in your outdoor movie theater that really gets your heart pumping, and it’s something that a soundbar just can’t deliver.
